What the Tappet Plate Pin Position Changes in an AEG

The tappet plate pin is a feature on the sector gear that moves the tappet plate during the gearbox cycle. Its position affects when the tappet plate begins to move and when it is released, but it does not work alone. Nozzle travel, tappet-plate shape, spring tension, sector geometry and the rest of the gearbox must be checked together.

What the pin actually does

As the sector gear rotates, the pin contacts the tappet plate and pulls it rearward. The nozzle then follows the tappet plate. When the pin releases it, the tappet spring returns the plate and nozzle. Changing the contact position changes part of this timing relationship; it does not automatically confirm the total tappet stroke or guarantee a feeding result.

Why the surrounding system matters

• Tappet plate: the contact surface, flexibility and available travel affect movement.
• Nozzle: the required listed length and profile must match the complete assembly.
• Sector gear: sector geometry and tappet-pin position must be considered separately from the written gear ratio.
• Build setup: spring, motor, battery, piston configuration and electronic control can change the cycle conditions.

How to inspect the setup

With the spring removed, close the gearbox shell and rotate the gear train by hand. Observe when the tappet plate starts moving, its rearward travel, the release point and the return to the forward position. Check for rubbing or a diagonal contact that pushes the tappet plate against the shell. Do not continue to powered testing until the manual cycle is repeatable.
