How to Diagnose a Locked Airsoft Gearbox
If an AEG stops cycling, release the trigger and disconnect the battery. Repeated trigger pulls can heat the motor, wiring, battery or ETU and may turn a simple stoppage into component damage.
Start with external checks
- Remove the magazine and make the replica safe.
- Inspect the battery, connector, fuse and visible wiring.
- Check whether the motor attempts to move, stays silent or produces an abnormal sound.
- Do not bridge a fuse or keep testing a hot electrical system.
Separate electrical and mechanical causes
A weak battery, poor connection, motor-height problem, failed motor or control-system fault can stop the cycle. Mechanical causes can include gear binding, damaged piston teeth, debris, an anti-reversal problem or incorrect assembly. The symptom alone does not identify the failed part.
Open the gearbox only if qualified
An AEG gearbox contains a compressed spring. Follow the platform’s service procedure and control the spring during disassembly. Inspect gear movement, shimming, piston travel and debris before replacing parts. Rotate the gear train by hand during reassembly and use controlled testing after closure.
