How to Lubricate an AEG Gearbox
AEG gearbox lubrication should leave a light, even film on the correct moving surfaces. More grease is not better: excess lubricant can collect debris, move onto electrical contacts or reach the hop-up and inner barrel. Open a gearbox only if you can control the spring and reassemble the parts safely.

Clean before adding lubricant
Disconnect the battery, release stored spring tension where the design permits, and photograph the original assembly. Remove contaminated grease with a material-safe cleaner and lint-free swabs. Inspect teeth, shafts, bushings or bearings, piston rails and sealing parts before reuse.
Apply a controlled amount
- Gear teeth and shafts: apply a thin film of a lubricant compatible with the gears and surrounding polymers.
- Piston rails: use only enough to reduce dry sliding.
- Dynamic seals: use a seal-compatible lubricant sparingly; confirm compatibility with the actual O-ring compound.
A close view helps reveal debris, dry contact and abnormal tooth wear before lubrication.
Keep these areas clean
Do not coat trigger contacts, wiring connectors, motor commutators, the hop-up bucking or inner barrel. Do not assume every silicone, lithium, PTFE or petroleum product is compatible with every plastic, rubber and metal in the gearbox; use the component or lubricant maker’s guidance.
