Securing AEG Bushings: Fit Before Adhesive

A gearbox bushing should seat flat and remain fixed in its shell bore. If it moves, first determine whether the bushing is the wrong size, the shell bore is damaged or the installation is incomplete. Adhesive should not be the first substitute for correct fit.

Inspect the fit

• Confirm the bushing outside diameter and shell-bore size.
• Check that the flange seats against the shell.
• Inspect the bore for cracks, distortion or previous adhesive.
• Verify the gear shaft and shimming before closing the shell.

If an approved retaining method is required

Degrease only the bonding surfaces, keep adhesive out of the bushing bore and protect nearby gear clearances. Use the exact product maker’s mixing, application and cure instructions. Do not assemble or power the gearbox before the stated cure is complete.

Verify the gear train

After curing, confirm that the bushing remains flat, the shaft rotates freely and the shimming has not changed. If the shell is cracked or the bore cannot retain the correct part, replace or professionally repair the shell instead of adding more adhesive.
