SVD AEG Gear Set: What to Check Before You Install

An SVD AEG does not use the same internal layout as every standard AEG. Before ordering a replacement gear set, identify the exact gearbox version and compare the existing gears, axle support and surrounding parts. A product labelled for an SVD platform should still be treated as a platform-specific component, not as a universal or drop-in fit.

What the JVAN SVD gear set includes

The current JVAN SVD set is documented as four pieces: one sector gear, a first spur gear, a second spur gear and one bevel gear. The bevel gear receives motor input, the two-stage spur train transfers rotation, and the sector gear drives the piston cycle while interacting with the tappet system. Treat these parts as a complete platform-specific train rather than replacing one gear by appearance alone.

Checks to make before ordering

• Gearbox version: confirm the exact SVD gearbox and compare the original parts with the product photos.
• Axle support: verify the bushing or bearing size and make sure every axle is supported correctly.
• Motor engagement: inspect the pinion-to-bevel contact rather than assuming the previous motor-height setting will transfer.
• Piston and tappet system: check piston pickup, sector-gear clearance and tappet-plate movement during manual cycling.

Installation sequence

Start with a clean gearbox shell and inspect all contact surfaces. Fit the gears without the spring, close the shell with its screws, and confirm free movement before adding the piston and tappet components. Complete the gearbox shimming and motor-height checks before powered testing. Test in short stages and stop if the gears bind, the tappet plate does not move freely, or the piston engagement is uncertain.
