AEG Gear Ratio Tuning Checklist
This checklist starts after you understand the basic meaning of AEG gear ratios. For the full explanation of 12:1, 13:1, 16:1, 18:1 and the JVAN 100:200 notation, read the main AEG gear ratio guide. Use this page to check whether the rest of the build supports the selected gear set.
Before assembly
- Confirm the gearbox platform and product application.
- Verify bushing or bearing size and axle support.
- Inspect the motor pinion, piston rack and tappet components.
- Check the spring, battery and electronic-control limits from their manufacturers.
During assembly
- Fit the bevel, spur and sector gears as a matched set.
- Shim with the shell closed and screws tightened.
- Set motor height from the pinion-to-bevel contact.
- Cycle the piston and tappet system manually before powered testing.
During testing
Use short tests and stop if the gearbox binds, engagement is uncertain or components heat abnormally. A lower written ratio does not by itself guarantee faster response, and a higher ratio does not by itself guarantee more torque. The motor, spring, battery, electronics, piston travel and assembly quality remain part of the result.
